New SKWALA Video - Bait and Switch
Skwala Ambassador Miles Marquez grew up in New York City chasing stripers. These days, Miles lives and guides for Big Sky Anglers in Idaho, Montana and Wyoming but gets back to NYC when he can. We rode along with Miles and his good friend Arthur Cortes as they took on big seas and big bass.
To target larger blitzing bass and hold their attention on the surface, Arthur uses the “bait and switch.” He casts a hookless surface plug on a spinning rod and then has Miles chuck a fly in its place once a bass starts chasing.
It’s unconventional, highly visual, and thoroughly exciting. It also sets up a thoughtful conversation: Is the bait and switch a cheat code, or a way to enhance the purity of the flyfishing experience for striped bass? Decide for yourself.
