YNP is open for winter travel, but we are running wheeled vehicles on mostly snow packed roads. The bare spots are plenty and with this bleak forecast, we could be driving vans for another couple weeks. Once on top of Firehole hill, the snow pack is thin, but then there seems to be quite a bit around Old Faithful. At this point, I am happy to be guiding. YNP is almost empty. Folks are touring the Park, but those who love the intimate ride on a sled or vintage bombardier, are a little disappointed to be riding in a van…….me too. The upside to all of this is that geysers still erupt, bison roam, swans trumpet, wolves howl and yes, the bears are still cruising around. The photo below was taken today, up on geyser hill, next to Teakettle.
