Yesterday was my girlfriends 30th and the first float in my new boat from RO Drift Boats. Since there are way too many anglers down inbetween the lakes on the Madison and we like to float, we took a lovely drive down to Varney Bridge. With rain comes rising water and finally there is a little more of it in the river. With 776 cfs flowing out of a frozen Hebgen and 971 cfs flowing at Kirby Ranch the river seems more like normal. Cabin and Beaver Creeks are are off color and so is the West Fork. Currently this evening, it is raining here in West Yellowstone.
Varney to 8 mile is fishing pretty good, but seems to be day to day. Some days we get’em from the boat and some days we have to stop and work the runs a little harder. We got fish to eat rubber legs, worms and mayfly nymphs, but not in every run. The Madison Valley foothills are now greening up, but there is still a ton of snow in the high country…..for now.
