Snowpack, Water and Rivers

This winter has been the biggest snow year since 1997-98. Our snowpack for the Madison River Basin is 113% with a 110% water content. This is all based on a 30 year average. 110% water content means that the snow is heavy with moisture and not just the dry powder that we loved to ski through. We will have run-off this year and I would expect that to start sometime around the end of May and continue on through mid-June.  Of course, that could change with more snow or warmer weather.

Hebgen Lake should fill up long before the 4th of July as long as PPL has paid attention this winter and doesn’t flush the water down the sink along with the eggs of spawning trout.
