The Madison is in prime shape for this time of the year……..which quite frankly is a little scary. Hebgen is filling up at a slow pace, but in another week to ten days the flows on the Madison should come up from its current flow of 421 cfs. The float section is at 720 cfs. There has been some precipitation in the high country and showers are forecasted for the next 10 days. We need it. The entire river is fishing well with nymphs and dries, but to be honest I haven’t heard a report for Ennis. From Burnt Tree to Town the river is really skinny, so I have not been fishing down there at all.
Who knows when Salmonflies will start this season. Since runoff is pretty much over we can expect the river to warm up sooner than normal……triggering the big bugs to crawl. We’ll see what happens in the next few weeks.
I am off to the Missouri River until June 13th. I have 11 days of guiding up there and will fish myself for the next two days and maybe a day after our clients leave. The Caddis should pop in the next week up there and I will give an update on the fishing when I get time.
