Madison River

I guided two very nice guys from California today on the Madison from Story Ditch to Ennis. We had good fishing out of the gate with big rubber legged stones and #12 Yellow Sally nymphs. It was spotty, but good. Once we got down into the Cottonwoods and out of the wind, the fishing really turned on and the trout were very aggressive on the big stone flies. There was no doubt when a fish ate the nymph. There were a few adults out but nothing in full force. There were other boats fishing the dries, but my guys did not see why we would need to switch as they were happy nymphing. If the sun stays out over the next few days, expect the Madison to pop with adult Salmon Flies…….and many more drift boats. Currently, the flow out of Hebgen is 1440 cfs and 1960 cfs at Kirby Ranch.
