This little guy popped out of the snow yesterday, not far from the road while we were parked.  It hopped around the snow and gave us plenty of opportunities for photographs.  The downside was that this ermine was just a bit far away.

Notice the longish tail…..typically, the ermine has a shorter tail, hence the name short tailed weasel.  It’s only called an ermine when donning the white winter coat.   The tip of the tail stays black so that when preyed upon, say by an eagle ( I have witnessed this) that maybe the eagle will concentrate on the black portion of the tail allowing the ermine to escape.

Catching some air.
