Yellowstone’s Winter Season, over the snow, begins tomorrow. We traveled in this morning, guides only, for a day with YNP personnel and a trip to Old Faithful. This day provides us with the opportunity to break in new drivers, for the rules to be laid out once again and for the mechanics to test machines. We listen to the Grey & Green present this years news regarding Park issues and eat lunch in the Visitor’s Center – FYI – no food or drink in the VC……except for today.
Our little red snow coaches, with Vortec engines, just so happen to be the most efficient way to transport visitors across the snowy landscape. Don Perry is the man. Not many know this feller outside of the Greater Yellowstone Area, but he just proved (once again) that his skills with a wrench are above all when it comes to building clean, quite, fuel efficient over the snow vehicles. Don just might save the bombardiers from extinction. YNP announced today that, per person, YAG’s bombardiers are top notch. The big yellow Buffalo Bus came in second and the Ski-doo 4-stroke snowmobile came in third…..mind you that Yamaha sleds, and other types of Mattrack conversion rigs are in the mix as well, just on down the line. In my humble opinion, tracked machines with skis are best.
Stay tuned for more reports from the interior of YNP.
