Steve Hoovler joined the guide staff at Big Sky Anglers in 2016, bringing with him over 20 years of local fishing and guiding experience.  He grew up fishing in Pennsylvania and was introduced to Yellowstone Country by one of his high school teachers. What a deal!  Our high school teachers introduced us to math homework and Charles Dickens. Steve attended Penn State University where he was a charter member of the Penn State FlyFishing Club, an organization which continues to, “provide all members of the University community with the opportunity to further their knowledge and enjoyment of the sport of fly fishing.”

Steve turned that love of sharing his passion for fly fishing into a career. During college Steve spent summers in West Yellowstone, MT working for Blue Ribbon Flies. After school, Steve moved to Montana full time, and went on to become a partner at Blue Ribbon, managing the shop for 7 years before moving on into new adventures. For the past 10 years, Steve has been an outfitter in Montana and Yellowstone National Park, guiding on world-class waters like the Madison, Yellowstone, Missouri, and the back country of Yellowstone Park. When he’s not guiding in Yellowstone Country, Steve hosts fishing trips for small, private groups to international destinations like Argentina, Belize, and the Bahamas.  Steve’s favorite fishing partner is his son, Jack, and despite being a really smart guy with generally good judgement, he loves rooting for his Philadelphia Phillies.
