June is gone….forever…..until next season that is.   Not sure where it went, but slowing the summer season down to snail’s pace doesn’t seem possible at this point.  I wish it was.  I wish we could have June all season long……but of course I wish October would last all year too.  Hmmm….six months of June and six months of October – the best of both worlds. The trout fishing has been really good throughout the morning, a little slow in the afternoon (too much high sun and no clouds will do that) and then stellar in the evenings.  The middle of the river is starting fish with some consistency, but those big bank feeders are still there.  Ron, pictured above taking it all in, made several money casts yesterday along those willow lines banks that the Madison is famous for -and it paid off for him.   Drifting a fly where others aren’t is the key to success.   Yes…..the Madison is busy right now.  A week ago – not so much.  Salmonflies will do that to a river.  Luckily, they will be gone in a week or so.  Maybe.  Hopefully.  While I love this hatch, it brings anglers from all over to our river.  The busy season is here.  Enjoy it.
